I started Karate in 1978 in South London under Thames Karate Association with John Taylor. Upon receiving my 2 kyu in 1980, I joined Enoeda Sensei’s Marshall Street Dojo.
During the 80s, I was also assisting in Don Morrison’s dojo (Sydenham Hill) where we had a formidable kumite team that traveled all over England, competing and collecting several medals. I was quite successful in individual kata, kumite, and team kumite.
My Shodan, Nidan, and Sandan were all done at the Crystal Palace Summer Course under the watchful eye of the most respected JKA instructors, led by Enoeda Sensei. In 1989 and 1990, I attended Yahara Sensei’s gasshuku and trained at the JKA Honbu Dojo in Japan.
In 1994, I met Tomiko Sensei and started to train with her. The following year, I represented WSKF GB at the 1995 World Championship, where I won a bronze medal and also received my Yodan that year. Following my move to Nigeria, WSKF Nigeria was established in 2014, and I was appointed the chief instructor.
Presently, I am a 7th Dan in WSKF and an advisor to WSKF England. I travel to England frequently and am able to train regularly with Tomiko Sensei and attend Kasuya Sensei seminars in both England and Japan. The training is always intensive, well-structured, and educational to the extent I almost feel like a beginner each time I attend, as there is always something new to take on board.
